Talawakelle Tea Estates: The First Ever Female Supervisors on Tea Estates
This initiative by Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC supports gender equity and breaks stereotypes by empowering young women to take on supervisory roles on tea estates. This is the first in the history of the Sri Lankan tea industry where a career in the tea fields for women has been professionalised and enables them to start as staff with a career progression pathway leading to the executive level. This initiative is a winner of The Centre for Child Rights and Business administered Child Rights in Business (CRIB) challenge Round 1 in 2023. About the Mother and Child-Friendly Seal for Responsible Business: The Mother and Child-Friendly Seal for Responsible Business is a collaborative initiative between The Centre for Child Rights and Business, Save the Children and key stakeholders in the Sri Lankan tea industry. The Seal Initiative aims to improve the well-being of women and children in Sri Lanka’s tea-growing communities through sustainable and meaningful investments by business entities in the tea supply chain (buyers, brands, plantation companies).
